Because of the request last meeting for more on developmental education assessment we have a couple short articles to discuss.
The first involves a study of self-directed placement in Florida with some data modeling. The second is a brief overview of various practices in developmental education:
Directed Self-Placement at Two-Year Colleges: A Kairotic Moment: https://journalofwritingassessment.org/article.php?article=134
~11 pages without references
A Framework for Assessing Developmental Education programs: https://files.eric.ed.gov/fulltext/EJ1168750.pdf
~7 pages without ads, would not be problematic to skim
I’m including a couple bonus reports for those that are interested. None of this is mandatory but these are especially not mandatory.
What Works Clearinghouse Practice Guide on Developmental Education: A report that I mentioned last meeting that looks at high quality evidence (DoE What Works Clearinghouse standards) that was published on several dev. ed. practices (i.e., multiple measures for placement, enhanced advising, performance-based monetary incentives, compress or mainstream dev ed, self-regulated learning training, and comprehensive, integrated, and long-lasting supports), including what measures of success were used (100 pages without references but with so many appendices and a lot of boilerplate): https://ies.ed.gov/ncee/wwc/PracticeGuide/23
Improving developmental education assessment and placement: Lessons from community colleges across the country is another (longer, ~44 page) CCRC article that outlines practices that were successful and assessed in developmental education: https://ccrc.tc.columbia.edu/media/k2/attachments/developmental-education-assessment-placement-scan.pdf
